The PMC standing committee on Wednesday approved the civic administration’s proposal to appoint a consultant for preparing the river improvement and beautification plan for Mula and Mutha river that pass through the city.
A 17-km stretch of Mula river and a 12-km stretch of Mutha river pass through the civic jurisdiction.
“The plan would focus on checking river pollution, conserving environment and promoting tourism,” said Ashwini Kadam, chairperson of the standing committee.
The civic administration has been asked to constitute a committee of elected representatives, environmentalists and experts to review the implementation of the project, Kadam added.
Kadam further said that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) was very strict about the project and it had to be carefully monitored to ensure that there was no waste of public money.
