The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught a section engineer with the irrigation department red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a land-owner to give clearance for a Non-Agricultural (NA) land certificate. The engineer, Anil Raosaheb Chavan, was arrested based on a complaint by the land-owner and his cousin who own land near Urali Kanchan and are currently in the process of getting an NA certificate for their land.

An ACB release states, “For the NA certificate, a clearance from the irrigation department is needed stating that the particular piece land is not in the command area of the dam. For issuing that clearance, Chavan had demanded Rs 25,000 for each of their lands. After the complainant approached ACB, a trap was laid at the official residence of Chavan on Wednesday morning and he was arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe.”

In another case, a traffic constable named Amol Sakhare, attached to the Hadapsar division of Pune City Traffic Control branch, has been arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a private bus operator. ACB officials said Sakhare had demanded the bribe as protection money in lieu of not taking action against the buses. A trap was laid at Hadapsar traffic division office on Tuesday night and Sakhare was arrested red handed while accepting the bribe.
