THREE months after a 27-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Kalewadi, the police have registered an offence of abetment of suicide against his wife and mother-in-law based on a complaint registered by his father.
On the evening of August 24, Vijay Dnyneshwar Ubhe had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house. After initially registering a case of sudden death, the police had later filed a case of suicide and had started their investigation.

Based on the FIR filed by his father, the Dnyaneshwar police have now booked Vijay’s wife Lalita and his mother-in-law Kantabai on the charges of abetment of suicide.
Assistant Inspector MK Adling of Wakad police station, said, “In his complaint, the father had that there were frequent disputes between the couple. He also said that Vijay had lent Rs 40,000 to his mother-in-law which he needed back but she was not returning. The complaint also says that the two women had mentally harassed him. We will be probing all these allegations. The two women are yet to be arrested.”
The police said Vijay used to do small contractual jobs to earn a living. As part of the probe, the police will be recording statements of relatives of the family and others who knew Vijay.
