IN A suspected case of suicide, a 52-year-old assistant sub inspector (ASI) attached to Pune police headquarters, was found hanging to the ceiling in his house in Rahatni on Sunday night. Based on a note found in his house, police suspect him to have committed ‘suicide’ due to dejection and depression.
Wakad police have identified the deceased cop as Nandkumar Vitthal Deshmukh, a resident of Rambag Colony in Rahatni. The incident was reported to the police control room on Sunday around 8.30 pm, after the family members found him hanging to the ceiling in his room.
Assistant Police Inspector Abhijit Jadhav, who is investigating the case, said: “Deshmukh was on night duty on Sunday. During late evening, he retired into the room to get rest before his shift hours were to commence. When some family members knocked on the door to wake him up, they found the door latched from inside. Deshmukh did not respond for a long time. They broke open the door and found him hanging to the ceiling. Police control room was informed immediately.”
Deshmukh was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead. Police said that Deshmukh had met with an accident in the past, which had led to a permanent disability. “We have found a note in the house in which he has said that he was ending his life as he was finding it difficult to live. He added that he could not do enough for his family. We suspect that he ended his life due to dejection and depression due to the disability,” said police.
