Four city colleges — G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management,SKN College of Engineering,DY Patil Engineering College and Army Institute of Technology — won 13 awards between them in the fourth JK Tyre Baja SAEINDIA 2011,held at Pithampur near Indore from January 28-30.
A news release said Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology,Punjab,was the overall champions with 801 out of 1,000 points. Raisoni College came second with 768 points and SKN College third with 751 points,the the release said.
Around 1,700 engineering students from 79 teams worked with experts in auto industry to find the best off-the-road vehicle. Ambuj Sharma,joint secretary,Ministry of Heavy Industries,and racing driver Armaan Ebrahim were the chief guests.
Raisoni College won the Hall of Fame for Excellence,the Maximum Acceleration and Durability awards,DY Patil College the Technology Innovation Award,SKN College the Dronacharya Award and Army Institute of Technology the Cost Award. Sagar Patane from Raisoni College won the Best Driver Award.
The event,organised by Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA) in association with National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP) and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI),is modelled on student competition Mini-Baja of SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers,US).
