The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have taken up the issue of the death of a disabled man who was charred in an MSEDCL transformer blast in Chinchwad on Saturday. Both the parties have decided to approach the police and register an FIR against MSEDCL officials. Popat Bansode (55), who was polishing the shoes of a customer, was charred to death when an electric transformer exploded.
Narendra Bansode, president, Maval taluka Youth Congress, said, “The Congress will fight for justice for the man who was charred to death due to the negligence of MSEDCL. The transformer exploded because MSEDCL officials did not ensure its proper upkeep.”
Bansode added that the Congress would file an FIR with the police. “MSEDCL has launched a probe in the matter, but we want the police to hold its officials responsible and file an FIR against them,” he said.

Mukund Kirdat of AAP said that party workers went to Chinchwad police station and urged the police to file an FIR against MSDECL officials. But the police said that they would file an FIR only after the MSEDCL completed its probe.
“We then met MSEDCL officials and told them to pay compensation to the victim’s family. We have also demanded that a family member of the victim be given a job with MSEDCL,” Kirdat said, adding that they have demanded stern action against negligent officials.
Kirdat said that AAP workers also met Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare and urged him to provide financial assistance to the victim’s family and a job with PCMC. “The PCMC chief has promised us to do his best,” he said.
