It promises to be an out-of-the-world experience for the students at The Bishop’s School in Undri, when Equinox,a Dehradun-based organisation will visit them. Equinox has a state-of-the-art Portable Planetarium procured from Learning Technologies Inc. in the USA,for the occasion. The planetarium shows will be conducted by seasoned astronomers, and will be very student-friendly. The show will encourage an interactive session, where students can stop the show at any time to ask questions and then proceed again. The duration of the show will be approximately an hour, and will be conducted class-wise within school hours. It will feature music and sound effects that will be played on a tape, with an experienced astronomer giving a live presentation enriched with interactions. The students will be encouraged to ask questions related to the Space and the Universe;using the projector, they will be able to see shooting stars, comets and auroras, things that they can never see in the sky from the city. By spinning the projector one way or another, the sky of any hour, day or even year can be shown, thus making the projector a sort of time machine. It will be an opportunity for the students to learn and absorb all the facts they study in their textbooks in a fun and exciting manner.
