13-year-old killed, uncle injured after garbage dumper hits bike

Police said that as the two came at Mantarwadi Phata, the bike was hit from behind by a dumper. The two fell down and sustained severe injuries. Mandar was declared dead upon being taken to a nearby hospital.

A 13-year-old boy was killed and his uncle seriously injured after the bike they were riding was hit by a garbage dumper on Saswad Road in Hadapsar on Sunday morning.

Hadapsar police have identified the deceased as Mandar Vikas Bhope (13), a resident of Tapkir Vasti in Vadu Khurd. Police said Mandar was riding pillion on his uncle Sopan Badhe’s (61) bike, as they were on their way to attend a gathering at a local temple.

Police said that as the two came at Mantarwadi Phata, the bike was hit from behind by a dumper. The two fell down and sustained severe injuries. Mandar was declared dead upon being taken to a nearby hospital.

Police said that though Badhe’s injuries are critical, he is out of danger. The driver of the dumper, Aslam Dannimani of Kondhwa, has been arrested on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence.

In another accident, an unidentified street dweller, aged approximately 30, died after he was crushed under the wheels of a truck, while he was sleeping under the truck during the showers on Sunday night on Pavali Bridge in Dighi.

Police said that the driver Gokul Ghodke (45), unaware that the man was sleeping under his truck, started the truck in the reverse direction, crushing him. Ghodke has been booked by Dighi police.
