The trade union strike Friday is not likely to have a significant impact in the city with major transport unions not supporting the call for a nationwide strike. Banks said measures had been taken to ensure normal functioning.
Transport union leaders in the city are opposed to the strike September 2. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply Transport (BEST), taxis and rickshaw unions said they will continue with their service. Railway unions have said they await a decision on the seventh pay commission from the government and will not go on strike.
The strike was announced by central trade unions against alleged ‘anti-labour policies’ of the government.
