Moments after he told his friends yeh shaayad mera aakhri din hai (today is probably my last day), 18-year-old Sameer Shaikh jumped from the third floor of his college building Thursday.

Shaikh was a commerce student at Andheri’s Oriental College of Commerce and Management. “Last week, Shaikh was scolded by his father for smoking. We have recovered a handwritten note in English where he says sorry to his father for his behaviour,” said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector, Oshiwara police.

Shaikh was rushed to the nearby Kokilaben Hospital but succumbed to his head injuries.

“His friends told us Shaikh was behaving in an unusual manner. They claim that he told them yeh shaayad mera aakhri din hai, but his friends did not take him seriously. After the class ended, all his classmates, including his friends, left the room. Sameer then jumped out of the window and fell head first on the lawn three storeys below,” said Khanvilkar.
