Maharashtra eyes Mauritius model for its beaches

Mauritius Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth along with a delegation of eight officials will visit Mumbai on November 19.

The state government is considering the Mauritius model of tourism to beautify its beaches, as part of efforts to improve the quality of its shores.

Officials said the government was looking to replicate what the island nation did to improve its beaches and plan to approach representatives of the visiting Mauritius government for their expertise.

Mauritius Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth along with a delegation of eight officials will visit Mumbai on November 19. State Finance, Planning and Forests Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and his team is expected to make various pitches to the team, mainly to promote Maharashtra as a beach tourism destination.

Besides the proposed project to create a ‘Sea World’ in Sindhudurg, there will be discussions to improve water sports in the state.
