The police probe into the multiple housebreak-ins at Kanjurmarg on Sunday has revealed that four people were involved in the loot. Fifteen houses in Ashok Nagar were broken into between 2 am and 4.30 am, and property worth Rs. 5. 09 lakh stolen from nine. The six other houses were vandalised, but nothing stolen. Residents of all houses were away on vacation.
“The CCTV cameras of the three neighbouring buildings show four unidentified men running towards the main road from the Shree Ganesh Chawl. Three painters working in a house nearby also saw the four men run past,” said an investigator.
The police have formed three special teams. “One team is to scrutinise the CCTV footage, the second to decipher the patterns of the houses broken into and the third to check up on persons involved in similar thefts earlier in this area,” the officer added.
“We believe the four people split into two teams and targetted two houses in the same lane. We don’t know why these 15 houses were targetted. We are not convinced these could be random incidents,” said an officer.
