Former Gondia MP, 3 relatives sentenced to one year in jail

The sentence was given for allegedly selling of cow milk which was not up to the prescribed standards.

FORMER BJP Gondia MP Shishupal Patle and three of his relatives have been sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each for sale of cow milk which was not up to the prescribed standards.

The sentence was delivered by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Wardha Sujata S N Mane-Gadekar on Thursday in a case pertaining to the sale of the milk from a Wardha outlet in 2008. The proprietor of the outlet, Rajendra Dudh Dairy, was also sentenced to six months of RI and a fine of Rs 1,000.

The milk produced by Patle family’s Pawan Milk and Food Products in Bhandara district was seized from the outlet in October 2008 by Food Inspector S B Nargunde. “The milk was found in a test to be deficient in contents standardised by FDA,” said a press note issued by Joint Commissioner (Food), FDA, Nagpur.

After due enquiry, legal proceedings were initiated in CJM’s court in January 2009. Along with Patle and Awthale, Durgaprasad Patle, Suman Durgaprasad Patle and Shilpa Shishupal Patle, all partners in Pawan Milk and Food Products, were also made accused in the case and chargesheeted. After hearing both the sides and checking evidences, CJM Mane-Gadekar delivered the judgment, added the press note.
