As cellphones become increasingly prevalent among both adults and youth, many schools face an important question of policy— whether or not having a cell phone on hand enables a student to quickly summon assistance in the middle of an emergency. Incidences of violent attacks at a school, fires, kidnappings, medical emergencies and other emergencies can be reported quickly so that the appropriate authorities dispatched. Allowing students to carry cell phones gives parents the ability to contact their children whenever necessary. But there are also many disadvantages o allowing students to carry cell phones. A cell phone going off can be extremely disruptive in the middle of class, interrupting a lecture or breaking student concentration during a test So according to me it depends on the school authorities whether to allow students to carry cellphones to school or not. -Urshita Kalathil, Class VIII,

In this 21st century, cellphones have become a vital part of 92% people; including youths and senior citizens. Coming back to the topic, I think that elementary and high schools should not allow usage of cellphones in their premises especially not during lectures. School students mind get diverted very easily and using cellphones will distract them from school academic, besides this children in their childhood and puberty go through development of their body; usage of mobiles mostly throughout day causes problems for our eyes. Most people for specification students have different applications on their cellphones like games, social media apps, etc. When children are there in lectures, carrying their cell phones; it is found that their sub-conscious concentrates on their cellphones and they don’t focus in their class. Thus, affecting their studies. -Shweta Madhale,Class IX, St Joseph’s High School
It depends on the person how one makes use of the technology given to him. According to me if a student is allowed to use cellphones at elementary level, the applications may fascinate them and distract them due to which they may lose their concentration in studies. This is not the same with the high school students. They are mature to use the technology in the right way and on the right time. Mobile phones can help for various purposes to students if used in the right manner. So students can be allowed to use cellphones at high school level. -Shlok Arya, Class AS,

In today’s world electronic gadgets have become an important part of an individual’s life. Almost every individual has a phone, starting from kids as young as age 7 to adults. Although cellphones have made our lives much easier, in my opinion students should not be allowed to use cell phones.
Cell phones will be a huge distraction to the students as well as teachers as students will be tempted to use cellphones during lectures as well. Elementary school students are too young to be provided with a cell phone in school. High School students can use electronic gadgets such as tablets or laptops if their curriculum requires.
In conclusion, students should be restricted from using cellphones in school. -Sanjana Iyer, Grade AS,

Students should definitely be able to use their phones during class. A phone is a great device. It can used for many educational things like research, projects, calculators, and even putting in important dates when a homework assignment or a project is due. You can also use a phone to call or text your parents if maybe you forgot your lunch at home, need lunch money so you can eat at school, or to let them know that you have tutorials after school that day.
We are preparing students for adult life; we should therefore allow them to use the tools that they will be using in their adult life. If we are preparing our students for life after school, we should allow them to use the tools they will be using when they get there. How many jobs can you think of right now where a smart phone is not beneficial? Mechanics order parts on their phone, engineers view blueprints, doctors calculate dosages, and grocers check inventory. The list is endless. As we all know that in olden times we were not having cell phones. But now a days all the people whether they are sweepers, barbers etc have cell phones. The poorest person also have cell phones. But why the students should carry cell phones. No, in my view the students should not be allowed to carry cell phones. –Pratham Gupta, Class VIII,

Policies on the use of cellphones in school vary. While most schools have thorough written policies in place regarding the use of cellphones by students, these guidelines are continually being reviewed, revised and updated on a regular basis for a variety of reasons. As cell phone used in and around schools evolves and becomes more pervasive throughout society in general, educators are also finding that the age of the typical child with a cell phone in school is
Since students are not prevented from carrying cell phone on their person, the risk of camera phones being used to take photographs of quizzes or exams and transmit them to classmates is of greater concern, not to mention the ability to text or instant message other students. In addition, pictures may be taken at home of notes that can easily be hidden within a phone and later used to cheat on an exam. Thus, usage of cell phone in elementary and high schools is profitable to the teacher as well as to the learner at a certain extent. -Pallavi Khetre, Class IX,

Cellphones have become a trend in today’s ever changing world. Students now make an access to their smart phones in their own classroom to help themselves in their class work, but s it not distracting them?
Students nowadays make an excuse to carry their phones to school and then to classroom and do all sort of things which they are not supposed to do which not only distracts them but others too. Students try to replicate ideas and answers from different websites which actually is a malpractice. Schools should prohibit the use of cellphones for students in school. -Ninad Singh, Grade AS, Ryan Global School, Andheri
The question of whether cellphones should be allowed in schools has been hotly debated over the years. The reality is, bans on cellphones are hard for schools to enforce. Most schools now allow students to have cellphones but try to require them to be turned off during class because they can be disruptive and distracting the Pew study found that 43 percent of all teens who take their phones to school say they text in class at least once a day. You can be in touch with your children, and know their whereabouts. The Pew study noted that 48 percent of parents use the phone to monitor their child’s location. Your kids can reach you in the event of an emergency, and vice versa. If in danger, your children can reach the authorities or a medical provider. Phones can be silenced during class or study periods and active only in appropriate places. -Kiran Rathod, Class IX, St Xavier’s High School, Kashigaon
In today’s generation where gadgets are used everywhere, cellphones are commonly used by everyone including a teenager or an elderly man. Cell phones are good means of communication. We can contact with any person who is thousands of kilometers away using cell phones. But nowadays you see every child chatting and messaging on their cell phones. This can distract the child from studying. Students should be strictly warned not to carry cellphones during school. Students can also take advantage of the situation and use their cellphones for coping during exams by passing answers and texting messages to each other. According to my opinion, cellphones are a distraction in class and should be strictly banned in schools. It can absorb their attention from studies and they can get addicted to them. -Jahanvi Devgania, Class VIII, St Francis High School, Vasai
Cellphones are amongst the daily necessities of man which is very useful. But according to me students shouldn’t be allowed to bring cellphones in school as they can distract concentration, can be used for cheating during exams and if it is allowed it should be switched off throughout and help students in their way to school and back home. It also has an advantage like it can be used for finding a word or clearing a doubt through internet. But according to me cellphones are having more disadvantages than advantages. If a student has a doubt it can be cleared through a teacher or computer in the school. School is meant for studying and cellphones can reduce concentration of students. Also, students should be familiar with modern technology. -Anushka Dixit, Class VIII, St Francis High School, Vasai
