

The CCTV footage of the Khairani Road accident in Mumbai last week that left one dead has gone viral on social media. A post on Facebook by Kamlesh Desai has received over 6,000 shares evoking multiple responses to the incident. In the video, one can see the BEST bus hitting the two-wheeler, throwing off the 26-year-old rider Pravin Pujari, and his teenager friend Sumit Chandanshive off the vehicle. Soon after a mob gathered near the bus and pelted stones at the vehicle.
The incident took place outside S J Studio on Mumbai’s Khairani Road at 7:30 am on Oct 11. Pujari and Chandanshive had left their home nearby before the accident. Pujari’s head hit the divider after the fall ultimately resulting in his death.

Passers-by rushed both of them to Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar wherein Pujari was declared dead upon arrival. According to the police, Chandanshive sustained minor scratches. Senior Inspector of the Saki Naka Police Station, Avinash Dharmadhikari, said: “The deceased was not wearing a helmet, which could have softened the impact of hitting the divider.”
The families of the victims damaged the bus after the incident. The police defused the tension and arrested the bus driver, Tanaji Kumbhar, under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence).
