To install an advanced system for timely weather updates, which will help prepare for an upcoming disaster, the general body of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation approved setting up the Doppler Weather Radar System on Friday.
Earlier this month, the improvements committee had cleared a proposal to allot a portion of a water reservoir plot at Veravali, Mahakali, as the site for the equipment.
The approval has come after the Bombay High Court pulled up the BMC on December 7 for the delay in setting up the system and posed questions about its ability to handle any calamity during monsoon in Mumbai. While there is one doppler radar system in the Colaba weather station, a state-appointed committee had recommended that another such system be set up in suburban Mumbai.
