6 arrested in Dahisar are history-sheeters: Cops

The Virar police investigating a case of in which two police constables were injured on Sunday after they were attacked by a gang,have allegedly found that the six arrested have criminal records with their criminal activities stretching from Dahisar to Nashik.

The Virar police investigating a case of in which two police constables were injured on Sunday after they were attacked by a gang,have allegedly found that the six arrested have criminal records with their criminal activities stretching from Dahisar to Nashik.

According to police,the arrested are believed to have robbed more than 100 commercial establishments.

The gang of seven was intercepted near Rahil petrol pump in Chandan Park,Virar,by a Dahisar police team on Sunday.

The gang allegedly attacked police with choppers and iron rods,after which the constables opened fire. In the clash,two constables and a gang member were injured.

Police officers said that the gang have several cases of robbery registered against them at police stations in Dahisar,Virar,Nalasopara,and Palghar.

According to police investigations,the gang believes in leaving no witnesses to their crimes,and allegedly kill anybody who comes in their way.

Ramrao Pawar,additional commissioner of police (North Region),said the injured accused was admitted to JJ Hospital. “The constables who showed daring and were able to arrest the accused will be rewarded,” Pawar said.

The gang belongs to a tribe from Sabalgarh,Madhya Pradesh and hails from a community that traditionally used to sharpen axes and other weapons for a living,police said. The gang always carry swords,axes or iron bars with them when executing a robbery,officers said.

According to police,the gang always reaches its spot in a tempo,which they park near the entrance.

After breaking open the door of the store,they would allegedly proceed to attack anyone present,ransack the store,grab the valuables,and load them onto the tempo before fleeing from the spot.

Police is trying to trace Bhushan Singh,the only accused to have escaped.

Other police stations will be given the custody of the accused to interrogate them in connection with the crimes that they have committed in their jurisdictions.
