Why no money spent on SCs’ welfare, SAD wing asks govt

The SC wing has urged the CM to look after this wing and to streamline their welfare schemes.

Apart from the Opposition, even the ruling party’s SC wing has questioned the government regarding its commitment towards the welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes. It has asked the CM why no meeting was held after forming the welfare committee for SCs in 2006.

Mewa Singh Gujjarwal, president of SC wing of SAD, said, “The welfare committee for Scheduled Castes was formed in 2006 and CM is the chairman of this committee. However, after 2006, no meeting took place. This is a committee which decides the welfare works of SCs at the government level.”

Echoing the Congress and AAP, Gujjarwal said, “In 2010, Rs 4,347 lakh came for the welfare schemes of SCs. However, hardly any amount reached the SCs. That means it must have been spent elsewhere. Moreover, the state did not spend more than 2% out of their total funds meant for SCs in the past few years.”

Gujjarwal said, “SCs comprise 32% population in the state and hence they have a sizeable vote bank. The government needs to be serious about the welfare schemes and also to check atrocities against Dalits which are increasing. The figures of National Crime Bureau and Punjab Police don’t match at all regarding crime against SCs.”

The SC wing has urged the CM to look after this wing and to streamline their welfare schemes.
