Six arrested, 30 theft cases solved, claim police

The police have recovered 78,000 tablets of psychotropic drugs which the accused were supposed to supply.

The Salem Tabri police on Monday claimed to have solved more than 30 incidents of snatching, loot and vehicle lifting with the arrest of six members of a gang.

The police have recovered 78,000 tablets of psychotropic drugs which the accused were supposed to supply to different parts of state, 21 mobile phones, three stolen motorcycles, two sharp weapons, one baseball bat and iron rod from the possession of the accused.

Those arrested have been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Goldy of Bhattiyan, Sunny of Ashok Nagar of Salem Tabri, Gurmeet Singh alias Johny of Khajur Chowk Salem Tabri, Pawan Kumar alias Mottu of New Ashok Nagar and Raj Kumar of Saroop Nagar.

The accused who are absconding are Tatu, Vinod Kumar of Chhawni Mohalla and Chirri and one another who is minor.

Addressing a press conference, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Police (ADCP, city-1) Joginder Singh said the police arrested the accused following a tip-off on Monday late.

The accused have confessed to their involvement in more than 30 incidents of snatching, loot and vehicle lifting. Assistant Commissioner of police (ACP, North) Ramneesh Chaudhary said in past few days the accused had snatched hand bag from a woman in Chander nagar area.

The accused looted Rs 40,000 from another person. The Assistant Commissioner of police added that the accused have been already facing trial in cases of burglary, loot, fraud and murder registered against them at various police stations. Police claimed that all accused are drug addicts too.
