The issue of house-tax recovery from the Sutlej Club today took another turn when Municipal Corporation Commissioner GS Ghuman decided to withdraw the auction notice issued to the club in the wake of pending tax. Patiala Divisional Commissioner J S Bir intervened and asked the legal advisor of MC for opinion. According to the legal advisor,adhering to the high court orders the club has paid Rs 33 lakh and the balance recovery of the tax is deferred till the disposal of the court case.
It needs to be mentioned that Rs 1.77 crore house tax is pending against the club,but the club authorities maintain that they have been overcharged. As of now club has deposited 50 per cent of the principal amount but the interest is yet to be paid.
