Taking a stern stand against the house-tax defaulters today,MC authorities decided to display boards outside the defaulters properties warning public not to buy such properties. This objectives to publicise the defaulters so that they will feel ashamed and hence will themselves start paying the outstanding amount so as to avoid any further embarrassment.
Joint Commissioner Divender Kumar took this decision and it has been conveyed to all the zones, revealed MC sources. The work to paste notices will start from tomorrow onwards, added the staff. Even today the teams recovered an amount of Rs 4.5 lakh from different defaulters while three buildings were sealed for non-payment of tax.
However so far,the MC authorities are leaving the big players and only the small defaulters properties were being sealed. A number of influential persons and industrialists were also in the list of defaulters and it will take some doing for MC to display notices outside their buildings as well.
MC had a target of Rs 54-crore house tax for this financial year, but looking at the potential of Ludhiana city, this target has been revised to Rs 75 crore. The MC commissioner has warned the employees to complete the target or to face action. The staff last year had met the target of Rs 48 crore.
