Nearly two months after a 17-year-old girl jumped off a mall in Shahdara, her 22-year-old friend Rinku Kumar on Wednesday attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of Shoprixx Mall in Ghaziabad. He died at a hospital on Thursday. Kumar, who was accused of abetting the girl’s suicide, has left behind a suicide note addressed to his family.

Watch what else is making news:

“I had promised that girl that we will live together and die together. If I had not made this promise, I would not have done such a thing, I would not have left all of you. I love you a lot,” read the note.

Asking for their forgiveness, Kumar added, “I love that girl a lot. And today she is not in this world but still I love her. I accept that I made a big mistake by loving that girl but I cannot correct this mistake now. Mummy, papa, bhaiya, please forgive me. Your heads hung in shame because of me and pray to God that in the next life you do not have a son like me… And the people who took that girl from the mall to the hospital, I want to thank them from my heart. I know, papa, that my whole life is ahead of me but papa, my world, my dreams, my happiness, my love, my life — all of it belongs to that girl…”

Less than 15 minutes before he jumped off the third floor, Kumar — from Rajasthan — had sent a message to his brother asking for forgiveness. The CCTV footage recovered from the mall shows a backpack being thrown from the third floor seconds before Kumar’s body hit the ground floor.

“This happened around 7.35 pm on Wednesday. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but he succumbed today morning. His body has been sent for post mortem examination and the report is awaited,” said a police officer. On September 22, a first-year student of a management course in Noida had jumped from the third floor of Cross River Mall in east Delhi’s Shahdara area. A suicide note was recovered from her in which she asked for her parents’ forgiveness.

Police said Kumar had allegedly harassed the girl, threatened her family and forwarded an obscene photograph to them. Three days after her death, Kumar was arrested. “He was released in mid-November,” a police officer said.
