Calling the ideology of a major section of Leftists in India as ‘aatankwadi vampanth’, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Awadh Prant Sanghchalak Prabhu Naraian Srivastava on Tuesday said the majority of Leftists want to divide the nation and do not recognise the country as “one nation”.

Srivastava said the fact that there was an agitation after Hyderabad University research scholar Rohith Vemula — a Dalit — committed suicide, exposed such ‘Aatankwadi Vampanth’.

Speaking to mediapersons about resolutions passed in RSS’ All India Pratinidhi Sabha meet held at Nagaur in Rajasthan last week, Srivastava said there are two types of Leftists in the country. “One is aatankawadi vampanth.

When we are taking about Leftist extremism, it is about those who give a call to divide Bharat Mata into thousands of pieces and those who do not recognise Bharat as a single nation. Such Leftists, who want to divide the nation, are in the majority,” he said, adding that such thinking has been exposed recently at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and Hyderabad University.

“The other section of Leftists believe in the ideology of one nation and they have faith in democracy too,” he said.
Srivastava claimed terror and separatist forces have tried to use Vemula’s suicide to provoke SCs. “But the SC community foiled their attempts… This is historical. No student of Osmania University supported the agitation in Hyderabad University. Moreover, a SC student lodged an FIR against some ‘extremist’ kind of youths who assaulted the ABVP president,” claimed Srivastava.

On AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi’s remark that he will not chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, Srivastava called him ‘Yakub panthi’ and ‘Afzal panthi’. “People like Owaisi are irrelevant for the RSS,” he said, adding that he would not like to spoil the taste of his tongue by making any further comment on Owaisi.

Rejecting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s suggestion for chanting the slogan to infuse patriotism, Owaisi had on Monday said he would not say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ even if a knife was put to his throat.

Meanwhile, Srivastava said RSS was working for ‘Samajik Samrasta’ (social equality) to bring deprived sections of the society into the mainstream. “RSS workers have been asked to communicate with Dalits and deprived sections in their localities and end discrimination. I will appeal to other social organisations and political outfits like Congress, SP and BSP also to contribute in the campaign, as RSS is observing this year as ‘Samrasta Varsh’,” Srivastava said.

Sah Prant Karyawah Narendra said 214 new shakhas have come up in Awadh prant in the last past one year. “At present, there are 1114 shakhas in the prant. Among these, 675 are exclusively for students,” he added.
