“The two constables on duty spotted Saleem on a motorcycle… he was carrying flesh. Since he had earlier been jailed on charges of cow slaughter, the constables chased him but Saleem managed to give them the slip. While trying to flee, his motorcycle skidded but still he managed to escape,” Aliganj Circle Officer Asha Ram Ahirwar said.

After he reached his house at Banjaran locality, Saleem told his associates that the constables had beaten him up, he added.

Following this, a mob of locals reached Purana Thana outpost and ransacked it. They also attacked the policemen, who managed to flee. The mob later blocked the road demanding action against the constables.

“The two constables were suspended to pacify the protesters. However, a case has been lodged against unidentified persons for indulging in the attack on the police outpost and blocking the road,” said Ahirwar. The police on Monday sent Saleem for a medical examination and the report has confirmed that he had no serious injuries, he added.
