Two bike-borne criminals shot at an elderly man and hit his wife on head with pistol butt near Dostpur village on NH-91 in Bulandhshahr when the couple resisted the duo’s attempt to rob them of their valuables, police said Friday. This is the same national highway where a woman and her teenage daughter were gangraped by a group of robbers two months ago.
Ghanshyam Rana (55) and wife Yashoda (50), who belong to Nand Nagri area of the national capital, were going to Hathras from Delhi on a motorcycle when two bike-borne men forced them to stop near Dostpur village in the afternoon. The robbers tried to snatch the chain and earrings of the woman who fell from the bike along with her husband, police said.
“Ghanshyam tried to fight off the miscreants who shot at him. They also hit the woman on head with a pistol’s but”,” Bulandshahr SSP Anees Ansari said.
The criminals had fled before a police team stationed nearby could reach the spot.
Passers by rushed to the couple’s rescue after hearing the screams of his wife and took him to a nearby hospital. The man had received the bullet injury in his hand.
“As per the FIR, the robbers could only take away the woman’s chain. We have lodged a case and investigations are on to identify and nab the miscreant”,” the SSP added.
The couple was later shifted to a hospital in Delhi.
