Police Friday arrested the vice-principal of a private school in Lucknow for his alleged involvement in a case of sexual harassment of a minor school student.
The accused is a native of Karnataka’s Chikmagalur district and had been provided an accommodation on the school campus. He was arrested after police carried out investigation based on the girl’s statement recorded before a magistrate, a police spokesperson said. Earlier, the uncle of the girl, a Class VIII student, had lodged a complaint with Vikas Nagar police station based on which an FIR was registered subsequently for sexual harassment, voluntarily causing hurt, intimidation and under the relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The complaint had accused the school administration of not acting when objectionable items were kept in the girl’s school bag by someone and she was made to drink water mixed with phenyle.
The complainant had accused school authorities, including the vice-principal, of being complicit in the girl’s harassment.
