A DAY after her appointment as Lucknow SSP was reportedly put on hold, the state government announced the selection of IPS officer Manzil Saini as the head of police in Lucknow district on Tuesday. She will be the first woman SSP of Lucknow.
The government had transferred Lucknow SSP Rajesh Kumar Pandey and replaced him with Saini on Monday as part of its decision to transfer 62 IPS officers and post new SSPs or SPs in 22 districts. Official sources said her transfer, however, was put on hold late night over unspecified reasons.
On Tuesday, however, the Chief Minister’s Office announced the appointment of Saini, a 2005-batch IPS officer, as Lucknow SSP in a tweet. Principal Secretary (Home) Debasish Panda said the letter of her appointment has been issued by the department.
Saini has been the Etawah SSP since May 6, 2015. Piyush Srivastava will replace her. Pandey, who had joined as Lucknow SSP on June 15, last year, has been attached to the DGP headquarters. On Monday, DGP Javeed Ahmad had said in a tweet that Saini will be the first woman police chief of Lucknow district.
