A DRUNKEN brawl at a wedding between youths from Hindu and Muslim communities led to a clash in Tanda area of Ambedkar Nagar district late Thursday. Heavy police force have been deployed in the area as communal clashes had occurred in Tanda several times earlier.
Over five persons from both communities suffered injuries in the clash. Two of the seriously injured have been identified as Dharmendra Raman (25), who allegedly was attacked with a knife, and Waseem who sustained head injury in brick-batting. While Waseem was referred to KGMU’s Trauma Centre in Lucknow early Friday, Raman is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Tanda Circle Officer Raghvendra Mishra said the incident took place when a baraat procession was passing by Chhajjapur.
A few youths in the baraat, reportedly in an inebriated condition, entered into a brawl with some youths of the other group.
“While the two groups indulged in a scuffle, Raman — who was part of the baraat — was allegedly attacked with a knife by one Mehboob,” he added.
“This led to a clash, as people from both communities gathered at the spot and started pelting stones at each other. They were dispersed after heavy police force arrived and resorted to lathicharge. The situation was brought under control after an hour,” said Mishra.
A case was lodged against Mehboob and seven unidentified people at the Tanda police station, an officer said.
