Former Lucknow University Students Union (LUSU) president Bajrangi Singh Bajju on Saturday joined the Congress in presence of party state chief Nirmal Khatri in Lucknow. Khatri has appointed Bajrangi party in-charge for LUSU elections scheduled on October 15.
Bajrangi was the last president of LUSU when the elections were held in 2006. He had defeated Samajwadi Party-supported candidate Ram Singh Rana. Students union elections were banned in UP after that. Bajrangi said that Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) will contest for all seats in Lucknow University.
Khatri said the Delhi unit of Congress had given full support to NSUI candidates in Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections. The same thing is beginning in UP today. The party will support NSUI candidates in the students union elections in UP, Khatri said.
NSUI general secretary Sheikh Shahnawaz said,NSUI has swept DUSU elections. Now it will perform similarly in LUSU elections.
