TO COUNTER Opposition parties on the issue of ‘nationalism’, the Kashi region unit of BJP has decided to celebrate Holi with only saffron colour. It will also hold Holi Milan programmes with the theme ‘Rang De Basanti Chola’, where leaders would invoke martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
While the party will celebrate Holi on March 22, Shaheed Diwas will be observed on March 23 — the day Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged.
The party has decided to observe ‘Rang De Basanti Chola’ week from March 20 to 26 in different districts, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi. “Along with Holi, Shaheed Diwas will also be observed. Photographs of Bharat Mata, along with martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, will be displayed at such programmes… Senior leaders will speak on real nationalism, for which these martyrs had sacrificed their lives.”
“The leaders would tell people that Opposition parties are targeting the Modi government for taking action against JNU students who had raised anti-national slogans… Now, they were making derogatory remarks on the Army as well,” said Sanjay Bhardwaj, BJP media in-charge for Kashi region.
“BJP workers will play Holi only with saffron colour. They will mix yellow abir and vermilion to prepare saffron colour,” he added.
Bhardwaj claimed the practice of BJP workers singing ‘Rang De Basanti Chola’ began on Friday. “The leaders will have to sing the song at all Holi Milan events where homage will be paid to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. In these programmes, the party will also felicitate farmers for their achievements,” he said.
“In such events, the masses will also be told that the JNU students who had raised anti-national slogans were going to campaign for certain parties against the PM… The people should understand that anti-national slogans would not be tolerated in the name of freedom of expression,” a BJP leader said.
The party’s Holi festival week — from March 20 to 26 — is part of the month-long programme that it plans to hold on different issues beginning March 12. The first such programme will be held in Raja Ka Talab in Varanasi on Saturday. At least two BJP workers will camp in each village and hold chaupals with farmers to brief them about the crop insurance scheme recently launched by the Modi government. The campaign on crop insurance scheme will continue till March 19.
“BJP workers will tell farmers how the new Union Budget was in favour of ‘Gaon, Gareeb, Kisan’,” said BJP Kashi region vice-president Govind Narayan Shukla. At least five such programmes will be held in each mandal unit of the party.
On the occasion of BJP’s foundation day on April 6, the party will collect donations from workers. Later, it will observe Samajik Samrasta week from April 10 to 14 — ahead of Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. “Seminars will be held at temples, parks and places having statues of Ambedkar. Sahbhoj (community dinner and lunch) with Dalits will be organised to spread the message that BJP believes in social equality,” said BJP’s IT Cell convener Piyush Vardhan Singh.
