The exchange of allegations between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati continued on Wednesday, with the former claiming that the BSP was attacking his party because it was working in connivance with the BJP. A day after claiming to have proof of BSP votes having been transferred to BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh said his first by-election was the “first experiment” of an alleged connivance between the two parties, where BJP had transferred all its votes in favour of BSP, and the Mayawati-led party was now trying to return the favour.
“Us samay ka karza BSP aaj tak utaar rahi hai…Yeh BJP ki wajah se BSP hum pe aarop laga rahi hain. BJP se mile hue hain (BSP is returning its debt of that time to BJP. It (BSP) is hurling allegations at us because it is in cahoots with the BJP),” said the chief minister.
Inaugurating projects worth Rs 4,500 crore in Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway from his official residence in Lucknow on Wednesday, Akhilesh said, “We do not have any competition because BSP has already been left far behind in the fight.” He added, “Bhaichara committee ke bhaiyon ka kya hua? Kya sab BJP mein nahi chale gaye?(What happened to all the brothers of the bhaichaara committee? Didn’t they all go to the BJP?)”. He said Mayawati was now misleading people just to defeat the Samajwadi Party.
Akhilesh went on to say that there are some people who are ready to suffer loss to any extent just to make others suffer. “Socho pura vote transfer kar diya to shunya reh gaye (It (BSP) transferred all its votes and was left with zero),” he claimed.
“She (Mayawati) says that she is not speaking about UP, but we are speaking about UP. She gave her countrywide calculations but if we look at Rajya Sabha, then we have also taken a lead. We are also counted countrywide,” the chief minister added.
Indirectly referring to the BSP chief as BBC (Bua Broadcasting Corporation), Akhilesh said that public knows how much they can trust her words. “Now she will say that she gave the Metro, the stadium is her project and also gave buses for transport. She will say all the works in Noida are her projects, and ask what the SP did,” he said. Citing the example of the Yamuna Expressway, which was started during BSP regime but was later inaugurated by himself, Akhilesh said projects initiated during Mayawati’s regime were only a “dream on paper”, while those that had started developing had “harmed the poor”.
Targeting BJP, Akhilesh asked the public to be cautious of its “next surgical strike” before the upcoming Assembly polls.
“These BJP people will continue to do surgical strikes, you should be cautious,” he said, adding no one talks about how many villages have got Internet or electricity in the state. Akhilesh said that while it is yet to be seen how many cities would turn smart due to the demonetisation decision, the latest “smartgiri” had had forced people of the country to stand in long queues.
On the possibility of an alliance with the Congress, Akhilesh asked what was the harm in having an alliance if the number of seats would go beyond 300.
However, when asked whether talks of a tie-up were ongoing, he said that it was not under his purview.
Laying foundation stone for projects via video conferencing, he said that the people would now assume he was doing so to avoid the “Noida jinx”.
“I will visit Noida in 2017, but some of my well-wishers have advised that I should first form government,” said Akhilesh Yadav.
