MORE THAN a month since Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap was arrested on charges of harassment and dowry death of his daughter-in-law Himanshi, BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday expelled him as well as father of the deceased, Hira Lal Kashyap, from the party.

While there was no official release from the BSP, party’s Ghaziabad unit president Prem Chand Bharti confirmed the expulsion of Narendra, currently lodged in jail.

Hira Lal, who had held the post of minister of state during the erstwhile Mayawati government, had accused the Narendra, his wife Devendri, son Sagar and daughters, Shobha and Sarita, of harassing Himanshi and demanding a Fortuner car as dowry, and subsequently killing her.

Himanshi was found dead with a gunshot wound inside a bathroom at Narendra’ residence in Ghaziabad’s Sanjay Colony on April 6.

Meanwhile, Mayawati called a meeting of all BSP MLAs and senior party functionaries in Delhi on Friday, during which she is likely to disclose the names of two candidates who would be nominated to the Rajya Sabha as six of its party members are set to retire on July 4. Of these, Narendra has been expelled, while Jugal Kishore has already joined the BJP. Of the remaining four members, names of Satish Chandra Misra and Ambeth Rajan are doing the rounds for renomination, sources said.

The other two outgoing members, Rajpal Saini and Salim Ansari, are likely to be overlooked. Saini’s son Shivan has already been given a ticket for Assembly elections from Khatauli as compensation.

During the meeting, Mayawati will also reveal names of at least two candidates for the membership of UP Legislative Council.
