BJP in Varanasi to make people realise their ‘duties’

The party will hold a series of programmes in Varanasi — the Lok Sabha constituency of the Prime Minister.

INSPIRED BY Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the masses — through his recent ‘Mann ki Baat’ broadcast — that they should discuss their ‘duties’ in daily life, the BJP Kashi region unit will observe ‘Kartavya Bodh Pakhwara’ (fortnight to realise duties) from January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

The party will hold a series of programmes in Varanasi — the Lok Sabha constituency of the Prime Minister. These include cleanliness drives and awareness programmes to be orgnaised by the BJP youth wing in different parts of the city and ghats.

On January 15, when thousands of devotees would take dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, BJP workers will set up camps at ghats to serve tea and clean drinking water to them. On January 23 — the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose — they would hold blood donation camps.

Further, the party’s medical cell would felicitate 51 differently abled people, who are now referred to as ‘Divyang’ (people with divine limb) on the PM’s suggestion. Modi himself is visiting Varanasi on January 22 to distribute aid and appliances to around 8,000 differently abled people.

On January 25, BJP workers will clean the statues of great personalities and their surrounding areas across the city. The next morning, on Republic Day, workers will garland every statue. The Prime Minister, in his Mann ki Baat programme, had appealed to the masses to clean statues of great personalities and its surroundings on January 26.

Moreover, the party would hold seminars and conferences to make people aware of the PM’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

BJP’s Kashi region media in-charge, Sanjay Bhardwaj, said: “We have decided to hold these events to make the people as well as ourselves realise our duties. The PM’s constituency is best suitable for this.”

Party’s medical cell convener for Kashi region, Dr O P Mishra, said BJP will felicitate at least 51 ‘Divyang’ persons, who are not only self employed but are also providing employment or education to others.

“While earlier, it was decided that the programme would be held either on January 22 or 23, now date will be changed because the PM is visiting Varanasi on January 22,” he added.
