List includes Mayawati,Jaya Bachchan and Rasheed Masood
All 10 candidates – including former Chief Minister Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan – who had filed nomination papers for Rajya Sabha elections were today declared elected unopposed.
While Mayawati had opted for the Rajya Sabha after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) lost power in UP,Munkad Ali was re-elected to the Upper House as BSP candidate. Rasheed Masood,who had recently resigned from the Rajya Sabha after deserting the Samajwadi Party,was elected as Congress candidate. Vinay Katiyar was re-elected as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee.
Other members declared elected today are from the Samajwadi Party – Naresh Agarwal,Kiranmay Nanda,Darshan Singh,Brijbhusan Tiwari and Chaudhary Munawwar Saleem.
Certificates of nomination were handed over to all the elected members by the office of the principal secretary of the UP Assembly today.
Joint Secretary Anil Kumar said that all six candidates of Samajwadi Party,BSPs Munkad Ali and BJPs Vinay Katiyar collected their certificates themselves.
BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra received the certificate of Mayawati while Congress MLA Radhesyam collected certificates on behalf of Rasheed Masood.
