CHIEF MINISTER Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday told the state Assembly that the SP government was withdrawing “false” cases lodged while acquiring land for expressway projects during the previous BSP regime.

While speaking after Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya’s cut motion on the budget of home and general administration departments, Akhilesh said: “At the time of expressway development in your rule (BSP), lots of people were jailed and many false cases lodged. My government is still withdrawing those cases. There were so many false cases registered in your time…”

Akhilesh described the Dadri lynching and the murder of VHP leader Arun Mahaur in Agra as different. “Compensation in the Agra incident cannot be similar to that of Dadri… The Agra incident occurred because of a financial dispute but it was highlighted following clashes between Hindu and Muslims,” he said.

Taking a jibe on Opposition’s remarks on communal clashes during religious processions, Akhilesh said “those who do not know mantras, fight for loudspeakers”.

He went on to accuse Opposition parties of doing politics on “unfortunate crime incidents”. On the demand of the Opposition for CBI probes into different incidents in the past, the CM asked them to have faith in the state investigation agencies.

Akhilesh claimed that investment was coming to the state only because the government was working towards improving law and order. Targeting the opposition, he said: “If companies listen to the speeches of leaders of other parties, they will go back… Renowned groups like Samsung, HCL and Infosys are going to invest in UP.”

On ‘Dial-100’ , the CM said the service will be available to the public after April.

Speaking on the killing of a homeguard by assailants at Manikpur area in Pratapgarh, Akhilesh said: “If police do not dare to take risks, who will?… We all move with gunners. Even I have security for protection from public.”

On police recruitment, the CM said his government had followed the procedure of the former BSP regime. “Only change introduced was that the distance one had to run in the physical examination was shortened,” he added.
