A 30-year-old woman was killed after she reportedly slipped and fell from a running train, while pursuing a thief who snatched her purse, Sunday night. The incident took place after the train had left Morena station in Madhya Pradesh and the FIR was lodged after the train reached Agra station. Mehboob Nisha, the victim, had boarded the GT Express from Andhra Pradesh for Ajmer and she was travelling along with her father and daughter to attend a family function.

Talking to The Indian Express, Agra Government Railway Police (GRP) SHO Manikant Tripathi said the victim was from Guntoor in Andhra Pradesh.

“According to victim’s father, the incident took place when the GT Express had started moving from an outer area after Morena station. She was sitting near window seat and was looking outside when a youth suddenly snatched her purse and ran towards the doors. The woman too ran behind to catch him and in her attempt catch the thief, she slipped and fell from the train. While the thief jumped and ran away, the woman died on the spot,” said SHO GRP.

The body was brought to the next station Agra Cantonment where GRP police registered a case of theft and culpable homicide.

The body of the woman was handed over to the family after autopsy Monday morning. “We will transfer the investigation in the case to Morena GRP as the incident had taken place in their jurisdiction,” added the SHO.
