Two youths were arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting two civic police volunteers after they stopped them from parking illegally under Survey Park police station on Thursday.
Arghya Das (24), a resident of Santoshpur and Amitya Barui (21) of Panchasayar, had parked their car in the middle of the road at around 1.30 am at Santoshpur Avenue. Two traffic constables— M K Sinha and B Bhowmick — who were patrolling the area asked the two men to move their vehicle. A scuffle ensued, during which Das bit the hand of Sinha and tore the shirt of Bhowmick, police said.
“The two accused were drunk and had wrongly parked their car and were arguing in the middle of the road. They tried to run away when a few traffic constables rushed to the spot. They were taken to the local police station and arrested at around 2 pm on Thursday,” said a police officer. Both the constables were taken to Bagha Jatin Hospital and discharged after treatment.
Das and Barui were booked under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) of the IPC, said Joint CP (Headquarters) Supratim Sarkar.
