Did you know the sling bag that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee always carries with her while she is travelling has a name? Yes, it does. And it is called “Junglemahal.”
This was disclosed in an interview that was posted on the official site of the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday.
In the interview, Mamata was asked: “You have named your bag Junglemahal.”
To this, Mamata replied: “I love Junglemahal. It is my pride. In the bag, I carry everything that I need in my daily life. I even carry medicines, once they came in handy when I cured a reputed doctor of pain in his waist.”
The interview further shed light Mamata’s daily routine, as she described how she works out vigorously every morning and walks 8 km on the trade mill.
Speaking about the years of her struggle, Mamata said that the government in the 1990s (read Left Front) was “snooping on her constantly”.
It also came to light that while everybody thought that Trinamool’s symbol of two flowers was drawn by Mamata, it was actually sketched by late party leader Ajit Panja.
Mamata said: “Trinamool means people from the grassroots. We wanted to work for the common people. Thus, we chose the name Trinamool. Even the symbol represents ghas phool. The symbol was sketched by Ajit da (Ajit Panja) and me.” Panja was a central minister and a founder member of Trinamool.
The website also took pride in the fact Mamata has been featured in TIME magazine’s list of most influential people in the world in 2012.
