Says as Rly minister,Trinamool chief gave nod to 100% FDI for MRTS.

The Congress party on Friday accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of doublespeak on FDI saying she had invited 100 foreign investment in the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) segment of the Indian Railways when she was headed the railway ministry.

“At that time she was pro reform,pro-development and she did not have any objection in inviting FDI in this particular segment of the Indian railways,” stated a booklet of the state Congress that was released today to counter the Trinamool Congress’ campaign against the UPA government’s reforms measure.

The MRTS was the only segment which could have attracted 110 per cent FDI and “we welcome that Mamata Banerjee during her tenure in the railway ministry had utilised this to the utmost. “At that time she did not smell any conspiracy neither did she find any objection to foreign capital,” stated the booklet.

The campaign for the reforms measures is part of the Congress strategy to neutralise the negative impact of the reforms push and to dispel lack of communications regarding these measures initiated by the UPA government at the Centre.

The booklet showcased how big Indian companies have invested in retail chains where almost all foreign brands are available in all the sector — individual brands and also in retail segment. There are over 6,000 shopping malls across the country that are run by Indian big business houses but the retail traders have not perished.

The Congress leaders tried to remind how in the past the Left parties had objected to introduction of computers in Bengal ,the setting up of Maruti car factory or funding from International Monetary Funds. All these campaigns have been launched whenever the Congress party has tried to initiate reform measures.

The booklet sought to argue that the reforms measures will bring in more competition and the farmers, consumers will benefit. Those who are opposing it are playing at the hands of Indian big business houses and middlemen, the Congress leaders said.
