The chairperson of the district council of Jhalawar, a BJP leader, joined the Congress on Monday just two weeks ahead of the local bodies poll in Rajasthan. While the Jhalawar town is represented in the assembly by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, her son Dushyant Singh represents the Jhalawar-Baran Lok Sabha constituency.
The chairperson of Nagar Parishad, Usha Yadav, joined the Congress in the presence of PCC chief Sachin Pilot. Her husband and BJP member Shailendra Yadav also joined the party along with her.
“I will work for the Congress with full dedication and all my supporters will work together to ensure that Congress wins here in the coming election,” Yadav said.
Pilot, who presided over the event, said the move showed that even elected BJP leaders did not have confidence in their own party any longer.
“This is the CM’s assembly constituency and its her son who represents it in the Parliament. If a sitting chairperson of a Nagar Parishad joins the Congress just before the elections, you can imagine which way the wind is blowing,” Pilot told The Indian Express.

“This sort of a switch is happening right under the nose of the chief minister which shows how poorly prepared they (BJP) are for the polls,” he said.
While BJP state president Ashok Parnami could not be reached for comment, Health Minister Rajendra Rathore had denied, earlier in the day, that the development would hurt the BJP.
