Expressing its ire at widespread littering by citizens in Delhi, a bench of the Delhi High Court Wednesday suggested that police and civic agencies could consider using “CCTV footage” to nab persons dumping garbage and prosecute them.
Asking the agencies and Delhi Police to take steps to stop people from littering and throwing garbage, the bench of Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Ashutosh Kumar said authorities can even take punitive action against people who throw garbage in areas not designated for waste disposal. “People should be made aware of the stringent provisions under the IPC, which entail imprisonment also,” said the court.
