South Delhi Municipal Corporation starts online registration of pet dogs

Mayor Shyam Sharma launched the facility for pet owners in south Delhi, with the aim of estimating the number of pets in SDMC areas.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started the process of registering pets online for the first time. The civic body had passed a proposal on the initiative in May.

The civic body is also trying to ascertain the number of stray dogs to curb incidents related to dog bites.

The pet owners have to provide proof of residence, certificate of vaccination against rabies and “a photograph of the dog along with the owner”.

While the registration was earlier done at a nominal fee of Rs 50, the revised fee for the process is Rs 500 per dog, including a “dog tax “ of Rs 5.
