More traffic cops for night patrol

On the first day of the drive police deployed 1,124 personnel, challaned 1,774 vehicles and seized 198 vehicles.

Delhi Traffic Police will deploy 50 per cent of its strength during the night to control traffic violations and reduce accidents. With a total work force of 5,000 policemen, the Traffic police aim to deploy 2,000 officers from day-time duty at night. Police said five months ago, only50 traffic police were deployed at night.

On the first day of the drive, which began on Friday, police deployed 1,124 personnel, challaned 1,774 vehicles and seized 198 vehicles.

Police also booked 20 cases against commercial vehicles under Section 279 of the IPC.
