After the capital reported its first suspected dengue death this season and with a sudden increase in cases of the mosquito-borne disease, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia held a meeting Wednesday to review the preparedness to deal with the threat. He directed government officials to prepare a communication plan to prevent panic among people and sought coordination among agencies.

“We must prepare on a war footing. So, let us start at all levels now and devise methods to stop the panic over dengue. Panic is one of the challenges we are facing. We must prepare a communication plan to let people know about dengue in detail. We must have a quick response team which will communicate with the people of Delhi,” said Sisodia.

Sisodia is learnt to have enquired about the schedule for distribution of awareness pamphlets, door-to-door visits of health workers and preparedness of hospitals to battle the disease. He asked district magistrates to send teams to hospitals for surprise checks. He asked the officials to work out a coordination programme between the government and the municipal corporations for handling the awareness drive and issuing of challans over mosquito breeding.
