The parking lot has 11 levels and people will have to leave their cars in the basement, from where those will automatically be sent to various floors. Cameras have been placed at the entrance of the parking lot, which record the car’s registration number and time of entry. The ground floor and the first floor will be used for commercial purposes and the rest would be used to park cars.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said,“It is a matter of great pride that we are making optimum use of available land. This parking lot at Capitol Point is an example of optimum land use. Automated car park technology has been designed and developed completely by Indian engineers. We should work on eliminating bottlenecks, minimising the retrieval time of vehicles.”

Users of the parking lot will be given a smart card. To get their cars back, people will have to return the card to the attendant and go to the waiting room.

The parking charges are Rs 10 per hour. However, officials have fixed a drive-out time of 5 minutes. If anyone does not drive their car out in 5 minutes, officials said they will have to pay a penalty of Rs 100. “The retrieval time will be not be more than three minutes. However, during peak hours, the waiting time will be around 12 minutes,” a DLF official said.

Rajeev Talwar,Group Executive Director DLF,said cars can be retrieved manually in case the automated system fails.
