A 19-year-old girl allegedly killed herself after being “harassed and stalked” by a local youth in south Delhi’s Kishangarh Tuesday evening.
“In her statement to police, Aarti’s sister Pooja said a youth named Neeraj, who was a neighbour, was stalking her over the last few days. She said he had assaulted the victim Tuesday,” said a police officer.
“We have registered a case and arrested the youth. However, we have not recovered any suicide note from the site,” said Ishwar Singh, deputy commissioner of police (south).
According to Aarti’s sister, Pooja told her Tuesday that she was being “harassed” by Neeraj. “Aarti said she was being mentally harassed by him for the past four days and even had a scuffle with him Tuesday. She also said Neeraj had hit her during the scuffle,” said Pooja

Pooja said she told her mother about the assault who, in turn, informed police.
She said she herself went to Neeraj’s residence, to ask him to stay away from her sister, but by then it was too late.
“I had gone to Neeraj’s house to deal with the issue but I found out that my sister had hanged herself,” said Pooja.
Police said a case has been registered under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (causing hurt) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code at Vasant Kunj (North) police station.
Police, however, claimed the accused used to visit the victim’s residence sometimes.
Aarti worked in a beauty parlour along with her two sisters in Kishangarh. She lived in a rented accommodation along with her parents.
