A 35-year-old MBA graduate was arrested for stealing a high-end car and police later found he was involved in over a dozen such thefts across the country. The accused, identified as Satender Singh Shekhawat, was arrested Monday while driving a stolen Audi Q7 in south Delhi.
JCP (crime) Ravindra Yadav said the Audi was stolen from the parking area of Holiday Inn, near IGI airport, on August 26. Shekhawat, who hails from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, is involved in more than 20 cases of hurt, robbery and thefts of high-end cars, Yadav added.
He has been arrested several times and spent time in jails in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Porbandar, Nasik, Mumbai, Ratlam and Mandsor, said Yadav.
The theft of the Audi Q7 was reported to police by its owner, who had handed over the keys for valet parking when he had gone to Holiday Inn. When he returned, he could not find the key of his car at the valet parking desk. “On checking CCTV, a person was seen talking on the mobile phone near the valet parking desk and taking away the key,” said Yadav. “The accused was caught on a tip-off.”

Yadav said Shekhawat was a smooth talker and would dress smartly while targeting parking lots of five-star hotels. For those managing the parking areas, he would seem like a businessman. He would wait for an opportune moment, swipe a key and nonchalantly drive off with a car.
Yadav said the accused revealed he disposed of stolen vehicles to receivers, who in turn used them to transport narcotics from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh because police ‘seldom checked high-end vehicles’.
