Delhi: Man strangles two minor sons days after birthday party, say police

Police said they received a call by the accused, who told them he had murdered his sons.

A 42-year-old man allegedly strangulated both his sons, aged 8 and 15, with a rope early Wednesday morning at his residence in northwest Delhi’s Mahindra Park. The accused, identified as Mukesh Antil, allegedly committed the murders four days after he threw a birthday party for his younger son.

Police said they received a call by the accused, who told them he had murdered his sons.

“He celebrated his younger son Aryan’s birthday on November 11. All his relatives were there,” said Jaswant Kaur, who lives in the same building.

Sources said Antil wrote notes on two cardboards — one in which he took responsibility for the murders, and another in which he said that one of his neighbours not be allowed to enter his house. “Antil wrote two notices, which the police later took away,” Kaur claimed.

But police denied that he had written such notices.

Neighbours said that Antil had been depressed ever since his wife died last year. They also alleged that he was involved in a bitter dispute with one of the neighbours in the building. A year ago, the neighbour had sued Antil over construction activity.

MCD councillor Parmesh Chauhan said they had sent a demolition order for the fourth floor after a city court ordered them to do so. “A part of Antil’s house was supposed to be demolished on November 17. I tried to mediate between him and the neighbour, but the situation did not normalise,” said Chauhan. He said Antil survived on rent from one flat, and wanted more money to come in from the fourth floor.
