A 40-year-old man, accused of harassing a woman AAP volunteer who later committed suicide, was arrested Tuesday night from Haryana’s Sonipat district. Delhi Police have been looking for the accused, identified as Ramesh Bhardwaj, for over a week, after the woman committed suicide by consuming poison.
While Bhardwaj had earlier claimed to be an AAP volunteer, the party has said he is not a member. Last year, the AAP worker had accused Bhardwaj of molesting her, after which he had been arrested. However, after he was released on bail, he allegedly started harassing her again. Fed up with the “harassment and threats”, she had committed suicide on July 19.
In a video recorded minutes before her death, she had accused Bhardwaj of harassing her, said police sources.
After her death, a case of abetment of suicide was registered at Narela police station and a special investigation team of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch had started investigating the matter. Investigators has also conducted raids on suspected hideouts of Bhardwaj in Delhi and Haryana.
