Blue banners and flags dot the entry points to the rally ground in citys Sector 25 where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati is scheduled to visit on Sunday. Preparations are on at full swing at the venue for the partys north zone workers convention.
The weather, however, did play spoil sport as strong winds and rain on Wednesday damaged a substantial part of the tent put up for the event. The BSP leaders, who held a meeting at the site to oversee the preparations, claimed it was one of the biggest tents which had ever been put up for a rally in the city. The tent will cover an area of 2.5 lakh sq foot and its roof be waterproof.
Around 250 workers were working on the tent, which was nearly complete before strong winds blew off a substantial portion. Now,additional workers have now been called in to begin work again.
The pandal where Mayawati will sit will be fitted with five air-conditioners. While CCTV cameras are being installed to prevent any untoward incident,LED screens are being put up to ensure that party workers have a clear view of their party chief.
BSP wants to focus on the northern region. Though we have a base here, the output has not been as much. After this rally, things will change. We are expecting 2.5 to 3 lakh people to participate in the rally, said BSP MP Narender Kashyap. Around 1,000 workers are supposed to come to the city by Friday. A few MPs have been camping here for the past few days to oversee the preparations.
During the convention, party workers will be given opportunity to air their views. Mayawati is also expected to hold a meeting with senior leaders.
